Candidate interview guide
After facilitating thousands of interviews, here is our best advice for nailing client interviews on Gun.io.
Our Advice
- Please attend your meeting on a computer, not a phone, in a quiet environment. You may be asked to screen share, but usually we will let you know beforehand if the client has made any requests for you to prepare for.
- The client may want to discuss rates, which the Gun.io representative on the call will handle. We’ll take in both sides after the call and reconfigure what engagement works best to meet everyone’s needs.
- Prepare questions for the client and take some time to review any information you have about their company, project, or product.
- We recommend discussing your interest in the role’s responsibilities, challenges they are trying to solve, and metrics for success.
- Use the STAR method to answer situational questions: Situation, Task, Action, and Result. Be ready to back up the results you’ve driven with data or details.
- For direct questions, always lead with your answer first, and then explain it. Rather than giving an explanation that leads to the answer, this gives the client a clearer understanding.
Interview FAQs
How many rounds of interviews should I expect?
We encourage clients to take advantage of a full one hour meeting to make a decision. Additional calls may be needed depending on their hiring process and stakeholders.
How soon will I hear back?
We aim to finish each call with a defined timeline for the feedback and decision from the client. We will update you as soon as we receive it.
Should I reach out to the client afterwards?
Until a contract is in place, all communication is mediated through Gun.io. Let us know if you have any questions or feedback.
