October 2022 Engineering update

As we head into the last couple months of the year, our engineering team is hard at work and pushing for a strong finish. When it came to October’s work, usability and personalization topped the list.

We’ve had some great conversations with our engineering and product teams on the Frontier Podcast lately. Of particular interest, when it comes to these monthly updates, is the chat Faith had with our VP or Product, Grey Garner, where he gave us the rundown of how he and the rest of the team decide what to build and how to prioritize all the things that come down the pipeline. 

Another month of some cool features being built just goes to show that they’re doing it right. Let’s take a look at what they’ve been up to.

Automation and assignment updates

We’ve been steadily growing our internal team here at Gun.io and one of the side effects of growth, regardless of where you are working, is the propensity to start asking “Okay, so who owns this now? How do we keep things from getting lost in the shuffle?” To that end, the team added some automations and assignment updates to jobs and tasks. They’re designed to increase accountability, improve efficiency, and keep us from asking questions like “Which one of you was responsible for blowing up the Death Star?” Because we all know that task was assigned to Ashley, and she crushed it.

Employer endorsements

Last month, the team added the ability to auto-populate current Gun.io engagements into a developer’s profile. This month, that’s been refined even more with new profile features that showcase endorsements from past and current employers. These talent reviews provide a way for clients to endorse the Gunslingers they’re working with, as well as an outlet to provide constructive feedback and keep projects on track.

New scheduling features

Our business model is based on the fact that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to finding the perfect match between a client and a Gunslinger. So why stick to a standard format for interviews, onboarding, and the many other online conversations that occur throughout the hiring process? Our new scheduling features are designed to give more control over the length of meetings, who can be added to a conversation, and how links to these conversations can be shared. Just another way we can personalize the approach to making the perfect match.

Speedier candidate selection

As we continue to grow, both internally and on the platform, it’s important to get candidates presented as quickly as possible. This not only makes for a great experience from the client’s perspective, but also helps get great developers working quickly. Some internal updates have been made that help our Technical Talent Advocates make the candidate selections faster. This shortens the time it takes to get interviewed and improves the overall process of getting candidates presented to clients.
